How to Run a 60-Minute Kickoff Call After Closed-Won

In brief

A good kickoff call after the sale spends 60 minutes confirming the deal, not touring the product. Our 60-minute agenda runs in six blocks and puts the promise ledger check in the first quarter hour. The Kickoff Pack (CAD $97) builds that agenda from your own call notes, with the handoff brief, promise ledger and warm intro email.

What is a customer kickoff meeting agenda?

A customer kickoff meeting agenda is the timed plan for the first call between your customer success team and a new customer. It decides whether the customer hears their buying story played back, or has to explain it again to someone who wasn't in the sales cycle.

The stakes are real. In GUIDEcx's 2026 research with 200 B2B onboarding professionals, 62% said their company has lost at least one customer to a poor onboarding experience, and 16% named the sales-to-onboarding handoff as their single biggest challenge. GUIDEcx also found that 68% of onboarding projects involve four or more stakeholders.

What changed for the customer success kickoff call in 2026?

AI now drafts much of the prep, but the call is still a human job. GUIDEcx reports that 46% of onboarding teams are prioritizing AI automation above all else for the next 12 months, and that most teams are still experimenting with where it helps. We think a person should review every AI draft before your team sees it. That's why every Kickoff Pack is AI-drafted and human-reviewed.

How does the 60-minute kickoff agenda run?

Our 60-minute kickoff agenda splits the hour into six blocks, and each one ends with a clear outcome. It works as an onboarding kickoff agenda template you can reuse on every deal.

MinutesBlockWhat it settles
0 to 5OpenThe customer says why they bought, in their own words.
5 to 15Promise ledgerEach sales commitment is marked agreed, to confirm, or not in the contract.
15 to 25Stakeholders and risksWho matters, who is missing, and what could stall the rollout.
25 to 40Success at 30 and 90 daysWhat "productive" means for this customer.
40 to 50Mutual action planNext steps, each with an owner and a date.
50 to 60Warm closeWho sends what by Friday.

Why does the promise ledger come so early?

It's the part most kickoffs skip. A promise ledger lists every commitment made during the sale. Checking it in the first 15 minutes means the rest of the call plans against what was actually promised.

In the fictional deal in our example packet, the ledger held 12 commitments: 7 agreed, 3 to confirm and 2 not in the contract. Those last two, a data import sketched on a whiteboard and a go-live date nobody scoped, are the lines that turn into "but your rep told us" weeks later. Raising them early, with the account executive on the call, lets both sides confirm, defer or quote them in the open. The ledger section of our free handoff template gives you one place to record each decision afterward.

What does the Kickoff Pack include, and what does it cost?

The Kickoff Pack is CAD $97 for one deal. It includes a handoff brief on why the customer bought, the promise ledger, the 60-minute kickoff agenda, and a warm intro email from the account executive to the champion with the CSM copied. You can open the fictional example packet on the Kickoff Pack page.

You paste call or CRM notes into a private intake, with no CRM install and no logins to share. Packets usually arrive the same business day after a clean upload, depending on volume. We don't train models on your files. If you only need the brief, the Starter Brief is CAD $49. Full details and terms are on the Kickoff Pack checkout page.

How can you run a better kickoff call after the sale this week?

Treat this as your kickoff call checklist. Send the warm intro from the account executive first. Open with the customer's reason for buying, as in the first block of our 60-minute kickoff agenda. Keep the AE on the sales to CS handoff call through the ledger, and send the recap in writing the same day.

To build your own, our free closed-won packet template and sales-to-CS handoff guide cover what to collect. For the full sequence from closed-won to day 30, read our sales to customer success handoff, step by step. When you want it done for you, order a Kickoff Pack.

FAQ

How long should a customer kickoff call be?

Plan for 45 to 60 minutes. That's enough to hear why the customer bought, check the promise ledger, agree what success looks like at 30 and 90 days, and leave with a mutual action plan. Longer calls tend to drift into product training, which works better in its own session.

Who attends a kickoff call?

From your side, bring the customer success manager who owns onboarding and the account executive who ran the deal. From the customer's side, bring the champion, the day-to-day power user, and whoever owns security or sign-on. If a key person can't attend, say so and book them in.

What should you send before a kickoff call?

Send a warm intro email from the account executive that introduces the CSM to the champion. Attach or link the agenda so everyone knows the six blocks and the hour's goal. Internally, share the handoff brief and promise ledger so your team arrives knowing what was sold and promised.

Can AI write the kickoff agenda for me?

AI can draft a strong agenda from call notes, emails and CRM records, and it's good at spotting commitments buried in long threads. It still needs a person to check it, because a wrong promise on the agenda does real damage. Every Kickoff Pack is drafted by AI and reviewed by a person.

What's the difference between the Kickoff Pack and the Starter Brief?

The Starter Brief (CAD $49) is the handoff brief only: why the customer bought, the risks, and who matters. The Kickoff Pack (CAD $97) adds the promise ledger, the 60-minute kickoff agenda and the warm intro email. A signed-in Starter Brief buyer can upgrade within 48 hours for CAD $48.
